Obliteration

Finally
I get to see Obliteration live! It has been one of my top
priorities for a concert and since I have beeen friends with Sindre for
a long time it really struck me I hadn't already seen them. But
that all changed this night.
After a whopping 5 opening acts (most notably Psalm Zero and
Pyrrhon), Obliteration finally hit the stage around 11:30 PM. And
Sindre immediately made his presence felt!

What followed
was possibly one of the most intense death metal sets I have witnessed.
Kristian's drum work absolutely destroyed the place while Arild and
Sindre alternated between Autopsy-ish sludge, Darkthrone-esque
atmosphere, and Repulsion-like blasts. The set list included many
oldies and some new ones as well, such as Transient Passage, and
Ascendence among the newer ones and Nekropsalms and The Worm That Gnaws
In The Night among the tracks from the first album. Of course,
for me the pinnacle
of the set was when Sindre gave the morbid ghouls of Dr. Shrinker and
myself a shout out right before rolling into Spawn Of A Dying Kind.
The Energy of the set never faltered and maintained it's
aggression and morbid atmosphere up until the final unholy note.

I
would like to thank the entire host of old and new friends at the gig
which included Sindre, Arild and Kristian of Obliteration,
Christoffer of Condor, Tooth of Natur and the death metal legends
Rich and Matt of Dr. Shrinker. You guys all rule and made
this a night to remember!
