Interview with Hass 2007
by Bradley Smith
The first project I am interested in that you are involved with is Hass. Can
you give me a little history of this band?
Enmys: Hass began in the year 2000 with the intent to be just an Uncompromising Black Metal project. It´s all done by me and the vocals are done by OhneGehfule, a good demented friend of mine. Hass has 2 albums out now, the first is called “Unmoralisch Black Metal” released by Sathanachia and Hades Prod. from Portugal and the second is called “Incest the Virgin”. We try to recreate the atmosphere from the Darkthrone´s Panzerfaust album and some Mysticum sick stuff. Some people don´t like the drums or the noise or whatever but we really don´t give a fuck.
Another of your musical projects is Zerstörung? Can you give me some of the foundation of Zerstörung and how it came to be? Tell me about the “This War has just Began” release.
Enmys: Yes, it all start in 1999 when Sniper Khols invited me to do a WarMetal project, since he already had a war metal band called Ausbomben, which i came to be part of later. So, i came up with some riffs and decided to play drums and the rest is what you have in “this war has just began” album recorded in 2002. We finished the second album called “winter of 1943” and right now i´m preparing myself to record the 3rd. I don´t know how it's gonna be, since Sniper lives now somewhere in Italy, but i´m sure that it will be a third album out. More aggressive and thrash style! Be prepared for it.
With so many different musical entities you are involved with how do you separate your efforts between them? Which one is more important to you?
Enmys: Hmmm, that is simple actually, since i´m doing pretty much all the work by myself. So, is my responsibility to make this two projects but i do whatever i want.. As you know, i don´t have much time for myself, but i´m always working on new songs and trying to go in new directions. With the Hass project i do a lot of improvising and ZerstörunG demands a more professional effort. We even try to make a real band from that but nobody seems to fit, you know.. i can't tell you which one is more important to me because OhneGefhule could be pissed off... haha.
Along similar lines, when it comes to music what sort of mental imagery do you normally associate with your compositions? Is it imagery of violence or more that of solitude or something completely different? How do you think imagery in every day life affects the way you approach your music?
Enmys: My every day imagery life is not interesting at all...but when it comes to writing lyrics and to creating songs i often try to imagine a lot of blood, flesh, corpses and destruction. That´s what inspired me since the beginning. Hass means hate, Zerstörung means destruction, so how could i have visualized something different than total sublime chaos?
It is stated on your website that you support the “Voluntary Human Extinction.” How do you see this developing? And why do you despise humanity so much?
Enmys: I did not create the site. But of course, i have to agree
with whatever is there, because it represents
my art.. i really think that the human kind deserves total extermination.
We destroy the mother nature for
greed and ignorance.
We are the most stupid thing
that
ever lived upon this earth.
Torture animals just to make some stupid children laugh in a circus is the most
repulsive proof
that our race must be extinguished.
It could be said that we don´t see any problem if someone take its own life, we just don´t care at all.
I
would not stop any friend of mine if he decided
to hang himself.
This is a
personal decision.
And i won´t even start talking about religion and its legacy
to this world.
You are the inheritor of the blood of Brazilian metal. What do you think of the history of extreme music from your country and what are some of the bands that have meant the most both to the scene and to yourself personally and why do you think that way?
Enmys: Brazil has a lot of real good metal bands, that´s for sure. The legends of Norwegian black metal know the importance of Brazilian extreme metal like Sarcófago, Sepultura, Volcano and SexTrash. They were really true in the beginning and everyone in this scene must know that. Today, as you might know, there´s a lot of extreme bands, everyday appears a new one. The ones that i can consider as real good ones (personal opinion) are: Impuro, Pactum, Mental Horror, Murder Rape, Flesh Grinder and there are a lot more i could list here. It's hard to live down here, and it's even harder to make a good extreme metal band, so that´s a reason for me to respect every true warrior who does that with honesty.
It seems like a lot of the metal music comes from places of weather oriented extremes. South American metal comes from an environment of extreme Heat. How do you think such weather extremes have had on the development of sound and style and if there is any effect at all?
Enmys: This fucking heat makes me very angry, because it brings a lot of mosquitoes!! But i live in the extreme South of Brazil, down here it is colder than the rest of this country, but still makes you sweat like a pig in the summer. I can´t tell you how this could make any effect in our sound. Never thought about that man...on other hand when it's winter i get more inspired, that´s true. But one thing i can certainly say to you: the beer down here is very cold all the year and we drink a lot.
ohneGefühle: Where we live, the climate is subtropical, we have very defined stations here in the south of Brazil, most people think that here it’s only the Amazonian and hot hell, we have cold here also in winter, it doesn't get to be the dark from the European North , but I can guarantee you that we have more cold in the south of the Brazil than certain European countries like Portugal and Spain, it‘s obvious that the weather influence in our sound style…or not…I don’t know, our noise just happens…
One thing I always found was a little contradictory as the relationship between
the Military and metal. I mean Violence and warfare are a recurring theme for
extreme metal but there is also a strong antiauthority vein there too. Do you
think that there could ever be a beneficial relationship between the military
and metal? Why do you think that?
Enmys: The whole war stuff is about the violence, the destruction of mankind, the horror and so on...there is nothing to do with the military life style. I stand up against authority, but that don´t make me a punk. The military way of life is not my interest at all. ZerstörunG is about pure fucking war. It´s ugly, evil, cruel and cold. Do not recommend it to anyone, haha!
While we are on the topic of antiauthority issues, what do you think of Brazil’s government and the institution of the “state” in general as it relates to human beings and their ability to live? Should we abolish it or is there are preferred method of government you like?
Enmys: Oh fuck, what a question! We give almost 50% of our money to the government paying taxes over taxes, you know, that´s the true. And the worst is that not even 10% of all this fortune gives us a return. So, as you can imagine, this is pure shit. But i would not defend any method of government at all, what is really missing here is respect for the working class man. Anarchy is not the answer to anything, so i don´t think we should abolish the government. Maybe if a big fucking tsunami came to wash away half of the population it could help...
What are your near term goals for Hass and Zerstörung? Doesn’t Hass have a new release coming soon?
OhneGefhule: Yes, the second album will be released soon by Satanhades Rec. (http://www.arkensatan.com) the title is “Incest the Virgin”. And i really can´t tell about Hass in the future, we never know what can happen.
Enmys: And i´m going to the studio to start the process of recording the third ZerstörunG album. It´s untitled by now, but i can assure you that it's going to be aggressive as hell and we´re going to talk about war, that´s obvious.
I’ll leave the Last Words to you.
Enmys: Visit the HASS website (http://www.arkensatan.com/hass.htm) and our myspace (http://www.myspace.com/hassunmoralischblackmetal), also visit the ZerstörunG site at zerstorung.atspace.com/ We´re looking for someone with an interest in releasing our material. I have to thank you Brad for this, once more, you are a very professional person and i wish you the very best. We bring chaos to this world and human fresh blood will never be enough.
