Teitanblood
Death

Norma Evangelium Diaboli 2014

Spain's ultimate death worshippers absolutely scorch the earth with their new album of oppressive blackened death.  Starting with the blinding destruction of Anteinfierno.  This is a relentless assault of filthy riffs and blasting drums that sounds like the ominous churn of a fiery crematorium as it incinerates the dead.  The riffs race by so quickly as lightning strikes of guitar solos streak across the infernal soundscape.  Plagues Of Forgiveness is a relentless holocaust of drums and grinding riffs that mercilessly bulldoze your eardrums.  The guitars when they slow down, which is rare, are very bass heavy and deep sounding.  They create a negative atmosphere which is similar in mood to Necros Christos ceremonial celebration of all things dark and unholy.  The vocals gurgle with layers and a haunting raspiness.  The wailing, moaning guitar notes of Unearthed Veins are married to distant vocal samples giving the song a haunting quality.  The riffs beef up and discordant female vocals float across the song.  Burning In Damnation Fires uses a more measure tempo initially before completely exploding.  So the beginning passages remind me of an old school underground death metal band with meaty rhythms and menacing grooves.  Even some Autopsy-esque morbidity surfaces around the 5:10 mark.  Eventually the music erupts into an intense gust of black metal destruction.  The sound of crackling flames and sinister spiritual chants are wiped away by creeping guitars as Silence Of The Great Martyrs gets under way.  Unpolished buzzing riffs rise from the gloom and purge your psyche of all hope.  The blistering pace of the drums is unrelenting and the mood of the song is inexorable.  It's like a black metal flamethrower that just spews searing riffs that melt your flesh.  As oppressive as that speed is, when the track drops into doomy, lurching riffs you are practically suffocated by the infernal weight of the song.  Teitanblood's new album, Death, is a bestial attack on the light and on life.  This album is like the fallout after a black metal explosion, nothing but burnt riffs and ashen drums charring your soul.
